Do you know about NASA - CHIPS Mission. I bet you dont...

CHIPS (Cosmic Hot Interstellar Plasma Spectrometer) is an American (NASA) astrophysics spacecraft that was launched by a Delta 2 rocket from Vandenberg AFB at 00:45 UT on 13 January 2003. The 60 kg, triaxially-stabilized spacecraft has a spectrograph covering the 9-26 nm wavelength band at a resolution of 0.1 nm, scanning the entire sky in chunks of 5 degree x 27 degree segments during each orbit. The targets are the hot and diffuse nebulae at about a million degrees temperature. The band covers several strong emission lines. Launch Date:   2003-01 13     Launch Vehicle:  Delta II Launch Site:   Vandenberg AFB, United States Mass:   60 kg  CHIPS carried out an all-sky survey of the diffuse background at wavelengths from  90  to 260 Å at a spectral resolution between about λ / 150 and λ / 40, and a spatial resolution of 5 to 15 degrees. CHIPS detected diffuse emission near 170 Å, but this turned out to be associated with the earth’s thin outer atmosphere or its int

Rise of the Giant : Saturn V ( The most powerful rocket )

The biggest rocket ever to be made with a height much taller than a 40storeyed building, Saturn V rocket is the most invincible machine ever built.
It holds the record of being the most powerful rocket till date.

The data about Saturn V precedes as followed :

It is manufactured by the american company Boeing(S-IC) North American (S-II) Douglas (S-IVB)

Country of origin being United States, the project costs about $6.417 billion in 1964–73.

Height of this rocket is 363.0 ft (110.6 m), with a diameter of 33.0 ft (10.1 m) and a huge mass of about 6,540,000 lb (2,970,000 kg).

It is a three stage rocket with its First stage - Length of 138.0 ft (42.1 m), Diameter : 33.0 ft (10.1 m),Empty mass287,000 lb (130,000 kg),Gross  mass5,040,000 lb (2,290,000 kg) and having Engines5 Rocketdyne F-1 with a massive Thrust of 7,891,000 lbf (35,100 kN) at sea level. It also has a Specific impulse of 263 seconds (2.58 km/s) sea level and burn time165 seconds using its FuelRP-1/LOX.

Its Second stage - length is 81.5 ft (24.8 m), diameter of 33.0 ft (10.1 m), empty mass 88,400 lb (40,100 kg) and gross mass of about 1,093,900 lb (496,200 kg) it has a Engines5 Rocketdyne J-2 with a massive thrust of 1,155,800 lbf (5,141 kN) in vacuum and a specific impulse of about 421 seconds (4.13 km/s) in vacuum with a burn time of 360 seconds using its FuelLH2/LOX.

The Third stage - length is 61.6 ft (18.8 m), diameter as 21.7 ft (6.6 m) with an empty mass of about 29,700 lb (13,500 kg) and a gross mass of 271,000 lb (123,000 kg) it has Engines1 Rocket dyne J-2 having a Thrust of 225,000 lbf (1,000 kN) in vacuum.

Such a powerful rocket was used to take us to moon back in the 20th century but it stands as the most massive giant rocket till today.

We salute the engineering behind the making of this giant.

I thought one or more of the large Russian heavy lifters were taller as well as larger ( bulkier) than the Saturnchuck

Well if Ares V was successful then it would have taken the place of satV
